Pishtiwan Jalal is a Ph.D. candidate at Virginia Tech’s School of Public and International Affairs. He is currently conducting research on the sectarian conflict in the Middle East and its impact on the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. He holds an MA in International Affairs from the Catholic University of America and a BA in Political Science from the University of Kurdistan- Hewler. He specializes in identity politics, political Islam, peace-building and conflict resolution, and international relations of the Middle East. His geographical focus is the Arab Gulf, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey.
