UN General Assembly is one of the most influential decision-making entities of the United Nations. This year marks the 70th year of establishment of the United Nations with 193 Member States.Peace-Islands-Institute

The United Nations is in the process of defining the UN Post-2015 Development Agenda around 17 new goals and 169 targets, which are agreed upon by governments in consultation with the private sector and the civil society organizations. Along with the North-South, South-South and triangular cooperation, Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) has received wide recognition as one of the means of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UN Member States will be meeting at the UN Summit on Post-2015 Development Agenda on September 25-27, 2015 to discuss recommendations and the roadmap of the transition from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the SDGs. The Heads of States and UN Member States will be addressing the United Nations General Assembly from 28 September until 2 October 2015.

National governments cannot achieve the SDGs without mobilizing the civil society organizations (CSOs.) In this respect, UNGA High-Level Reception aims to highlight the importance of PPP in the implementation of tasks highlighted in the UNGA Resolutions. Following the conclusion of the interactive dialogue between the Member States, UNGA High-Level Reception will focus on the major themes of the UN Development Agenda.

The UNGA High-Level Reception will highlight the UN Post-2015 Development Agenda, transition from the MDGs to the SDGs, the role of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in achieving the SDGs and implementation of the Post-2015 Development Agenda for the next 15 years.

In 2014, the UNGA High-Level Reception emphasized the theme: “Education for Sustainable Development: The Role of Public-Private Partnerships.” As part of the SDGs, education has a transformative characteristic, which significantly triggers equitable economic development; increases social inclusion and fosters environmental sustainability.
